Oppose the Nazi White Pride March in Edinburgh - Nae Nazis! Unite Against Fascism call on people to stand with them to oppose National front / White Pride

It is with disgust that we announce that the poisonous, travelling nazi rump called the National Front intend to come to Edinburgh city centre on the 25th of March to hold a ‘White Pride March’. The National Front are a pale shadow of that they were in the 1970s, when they achieved 100,000s of votes in elections and represented a real threat to black, Asian and other minorities on the streets. Because of constant and united work by the Anti-Nazi League, UAF and other anti-fascists over the last few decades, this tiny rump of fascists do not represent the threat that they once did. However, emboldened by election events in Austria, by nazi Le Pen’s polling in France, by Islamophobic Geert Wilders’ polling in the Netherlands and by the influence of white nationalists in Donald Trump’s team these fascists feel confident they can come to the streets of our multicultural city. These fascists look across parts of Europe and want to emulate fascist Jobbik in Hungary or Golden Dawn in Greece. Edinburgh has a fine tradition of stopping racists and Nazis. Should the nazi National Front decided to step foot in Edinburgh, we call upon all anti-racists and anti-fascists to take part in the broadest united mobilisation. UAF Scotland has a long history of countering and ensuring that fascists do not get a toe-hold in our communities. Only recently, anti-fascists ensured that the nazi Blood and Honour gig was cancelled in Scotland due to mass opposition. We won’t stand for their racism, their Islamophobia, their scapegoating of migrants and refugees. We will push them back like we did with the SDL, the EDL and the BNP. Please share this event with your friends, family, work mates. Assemble 12.45pm, Waverley Train Station (Market St entrance)

More than Brexit - the progressive case for independence

The latest Scottish Socialist Voice Forum will discuss "More than Brexit: The Progressive Case for Independence". The Scottish independence movement is at a cross-roads. There is an urgent need to discuss how a campaign around a progressive pro-independence movement can be constructed, and what its key demands should be. The coming campaign for independence will not be won on the basis of Brexit alone. Our meeting will hear from four speakers: Councillor Mary Lockhart (personal capacity, pro-Yes Labour councillor in Fife) Gordon Martin (Scottish organiser of the RMT union) Ben Wray (policy director at the Common Weal think-tank) Colin Fox (Scottish Socialist Party national co-pokesperson) Their contributions will be followed by an open discussion with our audience on the question of how we re-build a progressive pro-independence movement in this country.

People Sized Government: Lessons from Norway A Nordic Horizons event, live from the Scottish Parliament with Frode Lindtvedt

Scotland has the largest councils in Europe, serving on average 170,000 people. The European average is 14,000. It's thought that the remoteness of Scottish 'local' government contributes to our low turnout rates – 38% at the last council elections. Now the Convention Of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) and the Electoral Reform Society (ERS) have both called for large councils to be broken up. Can Scotland afford more genuinely local democracy? How would councils in economically deprived areas manage if they relied on their own localities for income? Would it break the bank to pay more councilors £16,000 each a year? How do other countries do it? Norway and Scotland have similar sizes of population. But Scotland has only 32 councils while Norway has 429. Norwegians have just rejected proposals to merge councils to save money. Why? And how can they make powerful town council, people-sized, government work without duplication of work or corruption? Frode Lindtvedt is the Director of Local Democracy, International Politics and External Affairs at the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities / Kommunenes Sentralforbund (KS), the Norwegian equivalent of COSLA.

Hope Over Fear are organizing this 2015 event to coincide with the anniversary of the referendum and to make a clear statement that our journey to full Independence for our nation continues. Our First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon has stated clearly that it will be the people of Scotland who will determine if and when there is an #indyref2. Lets fill Freedom Square and the surrounding streets of Glasgow on September 19th to make our voices heard. 2018 is an ideal year for #indyref2 as it is clear in terms of elections north and south of the border. HOPE OVER FEAR: SEIZE THE DAY RALLY George Square, Glasgow. Lots of great speakers including Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver plus great music...

The Hope Over Fear campaign will not shirk its responsibilities. On May 7th 2015 we have a unique opportunity in Scotland to wipe out the blue, yellow and red Tories in one fell swoop. We can electorally punish those who lined up with the billionaires and millionaires to lie, deceive and bully our nation into submission. We are not too small, too poor or too scared to move forward into a new and better world and by uniting the pro-Scotland and anti-Establishment vote in May 2015 we can realise our dreams. Bring the family and enjoy another great day out while listening to the speakers from all political backgrounds and on the importance of using your vote wisely at the general election. There will also be many amazingly talented artists and musicians for you to enjoy on the day. In the words of Gerry Cinnamon's inspiring anthem of our movement, "Hope Over Fear, Carpe Diem". Let’s seize the day in 2015. NOTE: Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver will be one of the speakers :) FACEBOOK EVENT: https://www.facebook.com/events/401561463337441/

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 Around 1:30 - 3:30pm BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice!

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice! Sunday, June 29 at 1:30pm - 3:30pm BBC Scotland Studios, Pacific Quay G51 1 Glasgow, United Kingdom This is a protest against bias from the self-proclaimed “impartial” BBC. The most important issue we need to highlight is the repeated omission of relevant facts, information & answers that has kept Scotland in the dark about the real independence debate. The BBC’s coverage is ruining the run up to the biggest decision in our history. People are suitably sickened by the BBC & other mainstream media and their one sided conveyor belt of scare stories portrayed against our economic prospects, EU membership and the currency of an independent Scotland. Sometimes the bias is not in what they do cover but what they don't cover in their news & current affairs programmes. Specific examples of bias that concerns us are as follows: Make up of Question Time panels. Irish & Luxembourg EU ministers views misrepresented. UKIP promotion during EU elections. University of the West of Scotland report on bias on evening news programmes (BBC & STV) University of the West of Scotland report on bias on Radio Scotland Good Morning Scotland show The BBC's membership of the CBI which opposes independence and even tried to become an official member of the no campaign until a U turn after a mass cancellation of membership by Scottish companies. Different styles of questioning for Yes/No including more frequent interruptions from interviewers. The list goes on… Let's keep up the pressure on the old BBC and arrange their next outing as a massive anti-bias operation! Bring your saltires, banners, balloons, friends, family and loud voices. Make it a day to remember! Everyone is welcome from both sides of the debate. Groups that wish to protest about other instances of BBC bias unrelated to the independence debate are also more than welcome to attend.
