234Stop PEGIDA! This counter-demonstration, organised by United Against Fascism (UAF) on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (21 March 2015), aims to stop the Scottish Pegida group from spreading their anti-islamic messages in Scotland.

Scottish Pegida supporters are organising a Rally on Saturday 21 March, Edinburgh Waverley Station to spread anti-islamic messages. As a response to this rascist event, Unite Agaist Fascism (UAF) organise an anti-demonstration, which is part of a series of events around the world, planned for the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, 21 March 2015. The Pegida movement originated in Germany and its name is an acronym for “Patriotic Europeans against the Islamisation of the West”. It held a rally in Dresden which was attended by 25,000 people. This racist group is now trying to raise support in the UK. Newcastle saw a few hundred Pegida supporters try and hold a rally on Sat 28th Feb. Newcastle Unites with UAF held a counter demo and faced down the racists with over 2000 supporters.

Hope Over Fear are organizing this 2015 event to coincide with the anniversary of the referendum and to make a clear statement that our journey to full Independence for our nation continues. Our First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon has stated clearly that it will be the people of Scotland who will determine if and when there is an #indyref2. Lets fill Freedom Square and the surrounding streets of Glasgow on September 19th to make our voices heard. 2018 is an ideal year for #indyref2 as it is clear in terms of elections north and south of the border. HOPE OVER FEAR: SEIZE THE DAY RALLY George Square, Glasgow. Lots of great speakers including Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver plus great music...

The Hope Over Fear campaign will not shirk its responsibilities. On May 7th 2015 we have a unique opportunity in Scotland to wipe out the blue, yellow and red Tories in one fell swoop. We can electorally punish those who lined up with the billionaires and millionaires to lie, deceive and bully our nation into submission. We are not too small, too poor or too scared to move forward into a new and better world and by uniting the pro-Scotland and anti-Establishment vote in May 2015 we can realise our dreams. Bring the family and enjoy another great day out while listening to the speakers from all political backgrounds and on the importance of using your vote wisely at the general election. There will also be many amazingly talented artists and musicians for you to enjoy on the day. In the words of Gerry Cinnamon's inspiring anthem of our movement, "Hope Over Fear, Carpe Diem". Let’s seize the day in 2015. NOTE: Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver will be one of the speakers :) FACEBOOK EVENT: https://www.facebook.com/events/401561463337441/

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 Around 1:30 - 3:30pm BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice!

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice! Sunday, June 29 at 1:30pm - 3:30pm BBC Scotland Studios, Pacific Quay G51 1 Glasgow, United Kingdom This is a protest against bias from the self-proclaimed “impartial” BBC. The most important issue we need to highlight is the repeated omission of relevant facts, information & answers that has kept Scotland in the dark about the real independence debate. The BBC’s coverage is ruining the run up to the biggest decision in our history. People are suitably sickened by the BBC & other mainstream media and their one sided conveyor belt of scare stories portrayed against our economic prospects, EU membership and the currency of an independent Scotland. Sometimes the bias is not in what they do cover but what they don't cover in their news & current affairs programmes. Specific examples of bias that concerns us are as follows: Make up of Question Time panels. Irish & Luxembourg EU ministers views misrepresented. UKIP promotion during EU elections. University of the West of Scotland report on bias on evening news programmes (BBC & STV) University of the West of Scotland report on bias on Radio Scotland Good Morning Scotland show The BBC's membership of the CBI which opposes independence and even tried to become an official member of the no campaign until a U turn after a mass cancellation of membership by Scottish companies. Different styles of questioning for Yes/No including more frequent interruptions from interviewers. The list goes on… Let's keep up the pressure on the old BBC and arrange their next outing as a massive anti-bias operation! Bring your saltires, banners, balloons, friends, family and loud voices. Make it a day to remember! Everyone is welcome from both sides of the debate. Groups that wish to protest about other instances of BBC bias unrelated to the independence debate are also more than welcome to attend.

Class and nation in contemporary Scotland: day 2 A full day conference with 5 different discussion panels

Session 2, "Sectarianism – or anti-Irish Catholic Racism?", speakers: Maureen McBride, Michael Rosie, Satnam Virdee, chair: Minna Liinpää. Session 3, "Class, Inequality and Gentrification", speakers: Ewan Gibbs, Gerry Mooney and Kirsteen Paton, chair: Maureen McBride. Session 4, "Movements and Neoliberalism", speakers: Robin McAlpine, Sinead O'Donnell Dunn, Jonathon Shafi, chair: Neil Davidson. Session 5, "Did the Yes Campaign Represent the Triumph of Nation over Class?", speakers: Neil Davidson and John Foster, chair: Satnam Virdee. Concluding remarks and close of conference, speaker: Bridget Fowler. The Independence Referendum campaign of 2014 and the British General Election of 2015 have transformed Scottish politics: the former giving rise to a social movement comparable to those of Spain and Greece, the latter consolidating the rise of the SNP signalling the collapse of the once-mighty Scottish Labour Party into electoral irrelevance. Yet the underlying sociological changes beneath these events have received relatively little attention. In particular, while fantastical claims about Scotland being dominated by increasingly affluent middle-class professionals have not survived the recession, nothing has replaced them, and discussions of the Yes vote and SNP's current hegemony simply assume that this is the result of a turn to 'nationalism' when in fact it reflects, at least in part, a search for a social democratic alternative to Labour. This conference seeks to address these issues of class structure and national identity, and related issues of racism, sectarianism and mass movements. Open to both academics and activists, we intend that our programme of lectures, panels and debates - all followed by open discussion - will contribute to deepening public understanding of the 'New Scotland'.

Including: National Demonstration Sunday 4 October Assemble 12pm: Oxford Road, M14 Independence Live will be livestreaming over the 4 days of these protests. This government continues to punish the most vulnerable in society, to cut & privatise our services, and to attack our rights. This October, the Conservative Party will be holding their conference in Manchester. Every single day they are there, the anti-austerity movement will be there too. The People's Assembly is calling a national week of protest from 3 - 7 October with events across Manchester. We will send a clear message that austerity has failed and we demand policies that benefit the majority and not just the few at the top

Scottish Independence Convention Presents The Reassembly Elaine C Smith will be hosting the many guests from across the country and the movement... and we will then be able to get down to some serious discussion about the way ahead...

Exactly two years on from the referendum, The Scottish Independence Convention are having a social event for all interested Indy groups to launch the next phase... to bring us all together, encourage dialogue, listen to some speeches, poetry, comedy and enjoy some music. We need all that energy, artistic endeavour, hard work and good old political discussion to get started again ( though it has never really gone away) and we need to establish a gathering place for all the groups, individuals, artists and ideas that made the Yes movement so vital in the journey towards self determination and Independence. Elaine C Smith will be hosting the many guests from across the country and the movement... and we will then be able to get down to some serious discussion about the way ahead.
