All You Want to Know About Constitutions but Were Afraid to Ask

John Drummond : SNP Club Edinburgh All You Want to Know About Constitutions but Were Afraid to Ask

John Drummond "All You Want to Know About Constitutions but Were Afraid to Ask" Find out from THE expert, John Drummond why drafting a Constitution is key as we make the case for Scotland to progress towards Independence. Be inspired! On Friday 22nd March commencing at 7.30 pm. prompt we welcome our speaker, John Drummond. Come and hear John Drummond talk about why Scotland needs a written constitution. The Constitutional Commission is a charity registered in Scotland for the promotion of democratic citizenship and for constitutional education and research, founded in 2005 by John Drummond (former Convenor of the Independence Convention) and Canon Kenyon Wright (former Convenor of the Scottish Constitutional Convention). The Scottish Constitutional Commission conducts research and advocacy on the establishment of a liberal and democratic Constitution for Scotland based upon the sovereignty of the Scottish people. The work of the Constitutional Commission starts from three axioms. Firstly, that legitimate sovereignty in Scotland resides in the "whole community of the realm", and not in the Queen-in-Parliament at Westminster. Secondly, that a written and entrenched Constitution, endorsed by the whole community, guaranteeing the rights of citizens, and delimiting the powers, duties and responsibilities of the institutions of State, is necessary in order to establish the right relationship between the State and the people in a liberal democracy. Thirdly, that liberal democracy cannot exist merely in procedural terms, but must be sustained by civic, humane and democratic values. If you would like to attend this event please email your name to Irene Beavis at the following email address: irene.beavis@edinburghsnp.org This is likely to be a very popular event and places will be given on a strictly first come first served basis.

Hope Over Fear are organizing this 2015 event to coincide with the anniversary of the referendum and to make a clear statement that our journey to full Independence for our nation continues. Our First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon has stated clearly that it will be the people of Scotland who will determine if and when there is an #indyref2. Lets fill Freedom Square and the surrounding streets of Glasgow on September 19th to make our voices heard. 2018 is an ideal year for #indyref2 as it is clear in terms of elections north and south of the border. HOPE OVER FEAR: SEIZE THE DAY RALLY George Square, Glasgow. Lots of great speakers including Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver plus great music...

The Hope Over Fear campaign will not shirk its responsibilities. On May 7th 2015 we have a unique opportunity in Scotland to wipe out the blue, yellow and red Tories in one fell swoop. We can electorally punish those who lined up with the billionaires and millionaires to lie, deceive and bully our nation into submission. We are not too small, too poor or too scared to move forward into a new and better world and by uniting the pro-Scotland and anti-Establishment vote in May 2015 we can realise our dreams. Bring the family and enjoy another great day out while listening to the speakers from all political backgrounds and on the importance of using your vote wisely at the general election. There will also be many amazingly talented artists and musicians for you to enjoy on the day. In the words of Gerry Cinnamon's inspiring anthem of our movement, "Hope Over Fear, Carpe Diem". Let’s seize the day in 2015. NOTE: Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver will be one of the speakers :) FACEBOOK EVENT: https://www.facebook.com/events/401561463337441/

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 Around 1:30 - 3:30pm BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice!

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice! Sunday, June 29 at 1:30pm - 3:30pm BBC Scotland Studios, Pacific Quay G51 1 Glasgow, United Kingdom This is a protest against bias from the self-proclaimed “impartial” BBC. The most important issue we need to highlight is the repeated omission of relevant facts, information & answers that has kept Scotland in the dark about the real independence debate. The BBC’s coverage is ruining the run up to the biggest decision in our history. People are suitably sickened by the BBC & other mainstream media and their one sided conveyor belt of scare stories portrayed against our economic prospects, EU membership and the currency of an independent Scotland. Sometimes the bias is not in what they do cover but what they don't cover in their news & current affairs programmes. Specific examples of bias that concerns us are as follows: Make up of Question Time panels. Irish & Luxembourg EU ministers views misrepresented. UKIP promotion during EU elections. University of the West of Scotland report on bias on evening news programmes (BBC & STV) University of the West of Scotland report on bias on Radio Scotland Good Morning Scotland show The BBC's membership of the CBI which opposes independence and even tried to become an official member of the no campaign until a U turn after a mass cancellation of membership by Scottish companies. Different styles of questioning for Yes/No including more frequent interruptions from interviewers. The list goes on… Let's keep up the pressure on the old BBC and arrange their next outing as a massive anti-bias operation! Bring your saltires, banners, balloons, friends, family and loud voices. Make it a day to remember! Everyone is welcome from both sides of the debate. Groups that wish to protest about other instances of BBC bias unrelated to the independence debate are also more than welcome to attend.

Session 5, "Did the Yes Campaign Represent the Triumph of Nation over Class?", speakers: Neil Davidson and John Foster, chair: Satnam Virdee. Concluding remarks and close of conference, speaker: Bridget Fowler. The Independence Referendum campaign of 2014 and the British General Election of 2015 have transformed Scottish politics: the former giving rise to a social movement comparable to those of Spain and Greece, the latter consolidating the rise of the SNP signalling the collapse of the once-mighty Scottish Labour Party into electoral irrelevance. Yet the underlying sociological changes beneath these events have received relatively little attention. In particular, while fantastical claims about Scotland being dominated by increasingly affluent middle-class professionals have not survived the recession, nothing has replaced them, and discussions of the Yes vote and SNP's current hegemony simply assume that this is the result of a turn to 'nationalism' when in fact it reflects, at least in part, a search for a social democratic alternative to Labour. This conference seeks to address these issues of class structure and national identity, and related issues of racism, sectarianism and mass movements. Open to both academics and activists, we intend that our programme of lectures, panels and debates - all followed by open discussion - will contribute to deepening public understanding of the 'New Scotland'.

Scottish Independence Convention Presents The Reassembly Elaine C Smith will be hosting the many guests from across the country and the movement... and we will then be able to get down to some serious discussion about the way ahead...

Exactly two years on from the referendum, The Scottish Independence Convention are having a social event for all interested Indy groups to launch the next phase... to bring us all together, encourage dialogue, listen to some speeches, poetry, comedy and enjoy some music. We need all that energy, artistic endeavour, hard work and good old political discussion to get started again ( though it has never really gone away) and we need to establish a gathering place for all the groups, individuals, artists and ideas that made the Yes movement so vital in the journey towards self determination and Independence. Elaine C Smith will be hosting the many guests from across the country and the movement... and we will then be able to get down to some serious discussion about the way ahead.
