3728Basic Income: real social security in advance of Fife's pilot citizen's basic income, an opportunity to explore the concept with speakers including Prof Karl Widerquist

Most of us have concerns about the current social security system. It doesn't make anyone feel secure. It is often seen as a form of control and a massive source of anxiety. In addition the world of work is changing and our system of social security seems stuck in the past. Maybe its time to test out something new? As Fife is leading the UK in exploring the opportunity to 'pilot' a Citizen's Basic Income Scheme (That is every citizen is given a set amount of money every month. This replaces much of social security and money is taken back from the wealthier through tax to also make it redistributive and will help to tackle poverty and inequality). We are delighted to have Professor Karl Widerquist as our keynote speaker. Professor Widerquest is one of the worlds leading advocates for basic income and co-chair of Basic Income Earth Network, a network of Basic Income organisations across the globe. 10.30 Welcome and Registration, Tea and Coffee . 10.45 Bring to Order Explanation of Day - Willie Sullivan Chair of CBINS Morning Session - Finding out about UBI (chaired by Willie Sullivan ) 10.50 Introduction to CBINS - Maddie Halliday – Trustee of CBINS ( 5mins) 10.55 Basic Income What and Why? - Professor Karl Widerquist (30 mins) 11.25 Why Fife? - Paul Vaughn , Head of Community and Corporate Development , Fife Council (10 mins) 11.35 Group Discussion Around Tables – Strengths and Weaknesses of BI (20 mins) 11.55 Questions to the Panel (35 mins) 12.30 Break for Lunch - Soup and Sandwich Afternoon Session - Getting to a Pilot (Chaired by Annie Miller) 13.00 Why a pilot ? - Speaker TBC (10mins) 13.10 The Pros and Cons of Pilots – Professor Karl Widerquist (10 mins) 13.20 Quick Q & A then speakers can circulate around the tables (10min) 13.40 Group Discussion around tables (20 mins) What are the Problems of a Fife Pilot? Transnational Social Strike, 2 - 4 October 2015, Poznan, Poland

Transnational Social Strike, 2 - 4 October 2015, Poznan, Poland

10.00am Sat 3 Oct 2015
Discussion on transnational strike coordination with participants from all over Europe. What do we need to effectively struggle against austerity, precarity and institutional racism all over Europe and beyond!

3450Transnational Social Strike, 2 - 4 October 2015, Poznan, Poland Discussion on transnational strike coordination with participants from all over Europe. What do we need to effectively struggle against austerity, precarity and institutional racism all over Europe and beyond!

TRANSNATIONAL MEETING IN POZNAN 2/3/4th OCTOBER 2015 website: http://www.transnational-strike.info/ Austerity is now the new normality in Europe. In these years monetary policies have been used to enforce neo-liberal labour reforms, privatization of the commons, cuts in welfare benefits and less civil rights. European governments and financial institutions use debt and technical parameters as a political tool to play workers and populations against each other, as the blackmail against Greece has shown. A new government of mobility is creating hierarchies among, between and inside European regions and is trying to limit the movements of migrants from inside and outside the EU. The global chains of production and of care-work criss-cross the European space using the different wage regimes and labour legislations for the sake of profits, creating a deep gap between the few rich and many poor. Through outsourcing and subcontracting the strength and the power of strike action is challenged. The many existing struggles throughout Europe on wages, housing, welfare and freedom of movement are confronting, from different sides, the current attack on life and working conditions. Faced with the transnational dimension of these attack, it becomes apparent the need to overcome their isolation and to find common priorities. The new forms of mutualism and local self-organization which have developed since the crisis are confronted with the problem of enlargement and inability to communicate with other struggles on wage and working/living conditions. The capitalist divisions between permanent workers, temps and unemployed, migrants and locals, formal and informal sectors create obstacles to the organization of successful struggles inside and outside the workplaces, throughout all of society. While Trade Unions, associations and movements center their activity within a national context, the transnational dimension of the European government of mobility and labor requires the capacity to build a power on the same scale of the attacks deployed. In front of this situation, we want to build up a process for a transnational social strike that could create connections, organization, transnational communication and strengthen common bonds between social and labor struggles. The transnational social strike starts from the limits of traditional forms of social and labor struggles and the form of trade union organization, from the loss of power that the strike, even when general, has experienced due to precarization and the transnational dimension of production. The strike is the name of a practice and of a process of organization, that entails the need to bring labor (in all its current forms) back in the agenda of the social movements. At the same time, the question is how to make the transnational social strike a process of organization able to widen the scale of existing insubordination and produce new and more powerful struggles, inside and outside the workplaces. After the assembly held in Frankfurt on March 19th 2015, we want to take a step forward and meet in Poznan, Poland on the 2nd-4th October 2015. The meeting place in Poznan offers the opportunity to foster the participation from the Eastern countries of Europe that are at the center of the present regime of exploitation and to promote a deeper exchange among labor and social struggles across established borders and regions. In three days of panels, assemblies and workshops we want to keep focus on the singular situations, sharing experiences and tactics, and on how to build a political perspective able to become a reference point for the existing struggles as well as new ones to come. Some focuses for our discussions are: how do we organize resistances and claims in front of the transnational organization of production? How do we share common knowledge of the different conditions? How do we strike where the borders between the inside and the outside of the workplaces are blurring? Are the claims on European minimum wage, income, welfare and minimum residency permit for migrants able to work as tools of transnational organization and of connection between the already existing struggles in different cities and countries of Europe and beyond? How do we organize collectively against the fragmentation and individualization of labor? How to create connections between permanent and temporary workers? How to tackle the social conditions of exploitation? Everyone who is interested in building this process and in contributing to its organization is very welcome to participate in the meeting. OUTLINE OF THE PROGRAM: Friday 2nd (late afternoon): Introduction to the meeting Round table: challenges and possibilities of a transnational social strike Saturday 3rd: Plenary and introduction to the workshops Two sessions of workshop (3 hours each) Sunday 4th (finish @lunch time): Reports of the workshops and general assembly WORKSHOPS: The workshops will discuss how the transnational chains of production and the supply chains – and their intertwining with financial operations – have transformed production and how to rethink labour struggles and strikes, asking what it means today to organize inside and outside the workplaces. We therefore consider fundamental how we address the role of migrant labour and mobility, the issues of precarity and unemployment, and the transformations of the welfare system as part and parcel of the transnational organization of labour. Finally, we think that one important task of the meeting is to discuss and elaborate potential common claims. We understand such claims as more than simple demands, namely as tools to organize and foster transnational communication where exploitation and command produce divisions and hierarchies. For infos and suggestions please send an email to info.transnationalstrike@autistici.org before the 20th September 2015 . The event will be English, but we will try to provide translations into other languages, please let us know in advanced which languages or if you would like to volunteer to help translate during the event.

3298Tony Rooke: 'Incontrovertible' The Man Who Took The BBC Licence to Court and Won

In February 2013 documentary maker Tony Rooke took the licence fee to court under Article 3, Section 15 of the Terrorism Act 2000 on the basis that the BBC were complicit in the 9/11 cover-up and had deliberately misled the public in their broadcasting. His most recent documentary 'Incontrovertible' follows his challenge through the legal system of what he describes as 'a crime' by the BBC. Tony was given the opportunity to demonstrate to the judge that the BBC had quite deliberately lied to the British public about the events of that day, in particular their 'Conspiracy Files' programme. The fact that the BBC had foreknowledge and had reported on the collapse of WTC7 20 minutes before it happened formed the basis for his case that the licence was not appropriate. Tony was not fined and was allowed to walk away on a conditional discharge. killingauntiefilms.co.uk

2830Hope Over Fear - We'll be coming, Road to freedom rally Hope Over Fear - We'll be coming, Road to freedom rally with lots of music and family fun activity.

From organisers: As promised, at our previous rally in "Freedom Square, Hope over Fear are organising this event to, once again mark the anniversary of the 2014 Scottish independence referendum and more importantly, send a clear message to our First minister that "We're Still Yes," our numbers are growing and we're' ready for #indyref2 whenever it is called. We understand that Nicola has a very precarious road to navigate, avoiding the various pitfalls set by the establishment and their lackeys in the MSM, before setting a date for #indyref2 but we know it is coming. Despite the attacks and smears from the Msm and their lackeys "We'll be Coming" and aiming to build on our previous, hugeley successful events in order to let our First minister know that the grassroots are ready, the seeds of Independence are growing stronger and in the words of the Graham Brown Band "the passion for freedom in our eyes" is burning brighter than before. This will be a well organised family friendly event with speakers, performers and entertainment for all to enjoy. Acts and speakers will be announced in due course.

Hope Over Fear are organizing this 2015 event to coincide with the anniversary of the referendum and to make a clear statement that our journey to full Independence for our nation continues. Our First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon has stated clearly that it will be the people of Scotland who will determine if and when there is an #indyref2. Lets fill Freedom Square and the surrounding streets of Glasgow on September 19th to make our voices heard. 2018 is an ideal year for #indyref2 as it is clear in terms of elections north and south of the border. (2016 Scottish parliament, 2017 Scottish council, 2019 English council and 2020 General election.) Join us on the Square with the message, #Indyref2 2018.

HOPE OVER FEAR: SEIZE THE DAY RALLY George Square, Glasgow. Lots of great speakers including Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver plus great music...

The Hope Over Fear campaign will not shirk its responsibilities. On May 7th 2015 we have a unique opportunity in Scotland to wipe out the blue, yellow and red Tories in one fell swoop. We can electorally punish those who lined up with the billionaires and millionaires to lie, deceive and bully our nation into submission. We are not too small, too poor or too scared to move forward into a new and better world and by uniting the pro-Scotland and anti-Establishment vote in May 2015 we can realise our dreams. Bring the family and enjoy another great day out while listening to the speakers from all political backgrounds and on the importance of using your vote wisely at the general election. There will also be many amazingly talented artists and musicians for you to enjoy on the day. In the words of Gerry Cinnamon's inspiring anthem of our movement, "Hope Over Fear, Carpe Diem". Let’s seize the day in 2015. NOTE: Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver will be one of the speakers :) FACEBOOK EVENT: https://www.facebook.com/events/401561463337441/

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 Around 1:30 - 3:30pm BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice!

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice! Sunday, June 29 at 1:30pm - 3:30pm BBC Scotland Studios, Pacific Quay G51 1 Glasgow, United Kingdom This is a protest against bias from the self-proclaimed “impartial” BBC. The most important issue we need to highlight is the repeated omission of relevant facts, information & answers that has kept Scotland in the dark about the real independence debate. The BBC’s coverage is ruining the run up to the biggest decision in our history. People are suitably sickened by the BBC & other mainstream media and their one sided conveyor belt of scare stories portrayed against our economic prospects, EU membership and the currency of an independent Scotland. Sometimes the bias is not in what they do cover but what they don't cover in their news & current affairs programmes. Specific examples of bias that concerns us are as follows: Make up of Question Time panels. Irish & Luxembourg EU ministers views misrepresented. UKIP promotion during EU elections. University of the West of Scotland report on bias on evening news programmes (BBC & STV) University of the West of Scotland report on bias on Radio Scotland Good Morning Scotland show The BBC's membership of the CBI which opposes independence and even tried to become an official member of the no campaign until a U turn after a mass cancellation of membership by Scottish companies. Different styles of questioning for Yes/No including more frequent interruptions from interviewers. The list goes on… Let's keep up the pressure on the old BBC and arrange their next outing as a massive anti-bias operation! Bring your saltires, banners, balloons, friends, family and loud voices. Make it a day to remember! Everyone is welcome from both sides of the debate. Groups that wish to protest about other instances of BBC bias unrelated to the independence debate are also more than welcome to attend.

Class and nation in contemporary Scotland: day 2 A full day conference with 5 different discussion panels

Session 1, "Contemporary Racisms", speakers: Colin Clark, Nasar Meer, Gina Netto and Suki Sangha , chair: Ashli Mullen. Session 2, "Sectarianism – or anti-Irish Catholic Racism?", speakers: Maureen McBride, Michael Rosie, Satnam Virdee, chair: Minna Liinpää. Session 3, "Class, Inequality and Gentrification", speakers: Ewan Gibbs, Gerry Mooney and Kirsteen Paton, chair: Maureen McBride. Session 4, "Movements and Neoliberalism", speakers: Robin McAlpine, Sinead O'Donnell Dunn, Jonathon Shafi, chair: Neil Davidson. Session 5, "Did the Yes Campaign Represent the Triumph of Nation over Class?", speakers: Neil Davidson and John Foster, chair: Satnam Virdee. Concluding remarks and close of conference, speaker: Bridget Fowler. The Independence Referendum campaign of 2014 and the British General Election of 2015 have transformed Scottish politics: the former giving rise to a social movement comparable to those of Spain and Greece, the latter consolidating the rise of the SNP signalling the collapse of the once-mighty Scottish Labour Party into electoral irrelevance. Yet the underlying sociological changes beneath these events have received relatively little attention. In particular, while fantastical claims about Scotland being dominated by increasingly affluent middle-class professionals have not survived the recession, nothing has replaced them, and discussions of the Yes vote and SNP's current hegemony simply assume that this is the result of a turn to 'nationalism' when in fact it reflects, at least in part, a search for a social democratic alternative to Labour. This conference seeks to address these issues of class structure and national identity, and related issues of racism, sectarianism and mass movements. Open to both academics and activists, we intend that our programme of lectures, panels and debates - all followed by open discussion - will contribute to deepening public understanding of the 'New Scotland'.
