SNP Campaign Conference 2015
10.30am Sat 28 Mar 2015

Class and nation in contemporary Scotland: day 2 A full day conference with 5 different discussion panels

Session 1, "Contemporary Racisms", speakers: Colin Clark, Nasar Meer, Gina Netto and Suki Sangha , chair: Ashli Mullen. Session 2, "Sectarianism – or anti-Irish Catholic Racism?", speakers: Maureen McBride, Michael Rosie, Satnam Virdee, chair: Minna Liinpää. Session 3, "Class, Inequality and Gentrification", speakers: Ewan Gibbs, Gerry Mooney and Kirsteen Paton, chair: Maureen McBride. Session 4, "Movements and Neoliberalism", speakers: Robin McAlpine, Sinead O'Donnell Dunn, Jonathon Shafi, chair: Neil Davidson. Session 5, "Did the Yes Campaign Represent the Triumph of Nation over Class?", speakers: Neil Davidson and John Foster, chair: Satnam Virdee. Concluding remarks and close of conference, speaker: Bridget Fowler. The Independence Referendum campaign of 2014 and the British General Election of 2015 have transformed Scottish politics: the former giving rise to a social movement comparable to those of Spain and Greece, the latter consolidating the rise of the SNP signalling the collapse of the once-mighty Scottish Labour Party into electoral irrelevance. Yet the underlying sociological changes beneath these events have received relatively little attention. In particular, while fantastical claims about Scotland being dominated by increasingly affluent middle-class professionals have not survived the recession, nothing has replaced them, and discussions of the Yes vote and SNP's current hegemony simply assume that this is the result of a turn to 'nationalism' when in fact it reflects, at least in part, a search for a social democratic alternative to Labour. This conference seeks to address these issues of class structure and national identity, and related issues of racism, sectarianism and mass movements. Open to both academics and activists, we intend that our programme of lectures, panels and debates - all followed by open discussion - will contribute to deepening public understanding of the 'New Scotland'.

Scottish Independence Convention Presents The Reassembly Elaine C Smith will be hosting the many guests from across the country and the movement... and we will then be able to get down to some serious discussion about the way ahead...

Exactly two years on from the referendum, The Scottish Independence Convention are having a social event for all interested Indy groups to launch the next phase... to bring us all together, encourage dialogue, listen to some speeches, poetry, comedy and enjoy some music. We need all that energy, artistic endeavour, hard work and good old political discussion to get started again ( though it has never really gone away) and we need to establish a gathering place for all the groups, individuals, artists and ideas that made the Yes movement so vital in the journey towards self determination and Independence. Elaine C Smith will be hosting the many guests from across the country and the movement... and we will then be able to get down to some serious discussion about the way ahead.

BBC - Bias Protest III 27th July 1pm BBC - Bias Protest III

The people's voice we all stand together and always for the cause of "YES" my friends. For the benefit of those that have asked and weren't at previous events this the 3rd protest against bias from the self-proclaimed “impartial” BBC. The most important issue we need to highlight is the repeated omission of relevant facts, information & answers that has kept Scotland in the dark about the real independence debate. The BBC’s coverage is ruining the run up to the biggest decision in our history. People are suitably sickened by the BBC & other mainstream media and their one sided conveyor belt of scare stories portrayed against our economic prospects, EU membership and the currency of an independent Scotland. Sometimes the bias is not in what they do cover but what they don't cover in their news & current affairs programmes. Specific examples of bias that concerns us are as follows: Make up of Question Time panels. Focusing on manufactured outrage at "cybernats" etc. rather than the real debate Irish & Luxembourg EU ministers views misrepresented. UKIP promotion during EU elections. University of the West of Scotland report on bias on evening news programmes (BBC & STV) University of the West of Scotland report on bias on Radio Scotland Good Morning Scotland show The BBC's membership of the CBI which opposes independence and even tried to become an official member of the no campaign until a U turn after a mass cancellation of membership by Scottish companies. Different styles of questioning for Yes/No including more frequent interruptions from interviewers. The list goes on… Let's keep up the pressure on the old BBC and arrange their next outing as a massive anti-bias operation! Bring your saltires, banners, balloons, friends, family and loud voices. Make it a day to remember! Everyone is welcome from both sides of the debate. Groups that wish to protest about other instances of BBC bias unrelated to the independence debate are also more than welcome to attend.

Bairns Not Bombs Scrap Trident Demo Speakers: Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister of Scotland; Patrick Harvie MSP, Co-Convenor, Scottish Greens; Katy Clark MP (Labour); Cat Boyd, RIC; Sasha Callaghan, Disability History Scotland; Nuala Watt, Human Beings on Benefits; Ann Henderson, STUC

Bairns Not Bombs Scrap Trident Demo Saturday 4th 11:00am - 1:30pm George Square, Glasgow Speakers: Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister of Scotland; Patrick Harvie MSP, Co-Convenor, Scottish Greens; Katy Clark MP (Labour); Cat Boyd, Radical Independence Campaign; Sasha Callaghan, Disability History Scotland; Nuala Watt, Human Beings on Benefits; Ann Henderson, Assistant Secretary, STUC; and singers Karine Polwart and Penny Stone. Despite the opposition of the SNP, Greens, Plaid Cymru and a handful of Labour rebels the main UK parties plan to replace Trident at a cost of £100Bn and keep nuclear weapons in Scotland for the next 50 years. But Scotland could turn the tide on the decision on Trident replacement and the future of nuclear disarmament worldwide. A solid bloc of anti-Trident MPs from Scotland in the next Westminster Parliament could hold the balance of power and stop Trident in its tracks. And most countries support a Ban on Nuclear Weapons. The deadlock of Mutually Assured Destruction is crumbling and there is a now a chance to Scrap Trident and Ban the Bomb. Let's seize the moment and send a strong message that Scotland will not accept Trident any longer with a mass demonstration. Be at the Bairns Not BOMBS Demonstration. George Square. Glasgow 4 April. Assemble 10:30. March 11am. Rally 12noon. And we urge you to consider joining in resisting UK plans to continue threatening the world with nuclear holocaust by engaging in civil disobedience. Join or Support the Big Blockade at Faslane Nuclear Weapons Base 13 April. Nonviolent Direct Action Training 12 April in a Glasgow venue. And we all need to put pressure on MPs to take the No Trident Replacement Pledge. Vote for MP’s who make a commitment to vote NO on TRIDENT. VOTE TRIDENT OUT on 7 May. Go to to http://scraptrident.org/ to sign the Scrap Trident Pledge and read the Blockade Briefing. And don't forget to Vote in the General Election for MPs who pledge to vote No on Trident Replacement.

PROTEST TO OPPOSE HOSPTIAL BEING NAMED AFTER MONARCH live from the new Southern General hospital

The Scottish Government have buried their heads in the sand and are hoping this goes away. Their replies to my email have been nothing short of disgraceful. The more journalists dig into this story, the more questions are raised about the whole saga. In light of this, we have decided to organise a protest on the 23rd of October at 14:30 at the Govan Road entrance to the new hospital. We hope that you can come along to show solidarity with those of us who feel it is unacceptable to name a taxpayer funded public hospital after a monarch, the beacon of inequality. Bring banners (tasteful ones please). For event details. Search PROTEST AT NEW SOUTHERN GENERAL HOSPITAL in Facebook and the page will appear.

Hands Over Our Forth a public protest against Underground Coal Gasification (UCG)

Anti-frack/Unconventional Gas Extraction (UGE) groups from across the central belt of Scotland and beyond - including community action groups and other organisations - will be joining forces to actively demonstrate to the Scottish Government, that UCG (Underground Coal Gasification) must be included in the current moratorium, from which it was omitted in the January 2015 statement. From then on, we will be demanding an all-out ban. We have the support of the Broad Alliance and regional action groups from all over Scotland and south of the border. People from all over Scotland are invited to join us in standing on the Forth Road Bridge, from North Queensferry side in Fife to South Queensferry side. In order to do this, we need as many volunteers as possible. It is estimated that we need approximately 1800 people to participate so if you're free and want to be part of urging our government to change something, please come along. If you know any local group/organisation/club who'd be interested in being involved, please share this information/FB event with them. Let's make a hUGE statement and not allow our government to ignore the public outcry and opposition to these processes. Your support is needed at this family-friendly event, organised by and for Scottish Communities, please bring your family, friends and neighbours. Hope to see you all, there! :)

Hope Over Fear are organizing this 2015 event to coincide with the anniversary of the referendum and to make a clear statement that our journey to full Independence for our nation continues. Our First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon has stated clearly that it will be the people of Scotland who will determine if and when there is an #indyref2. Lets fill Freedom Square and the surrounding streets of Glasgow on September 19th to make our voices heard. 2018 is an ideal year for #indyref2 as it is clear in terms of elections north and south of the border. (2016 Scottish parliament, 2017 Scottish council, 2019 English council and 2020 General election.) Join us on the Square with the message, #Indyref2 2018.

HOPE OVER FEAR: SEIZE THE DAY RALLY George Square, Glasgow. Lots of great speakers including Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver plus great music...

The Hope Over Fear campaign will not shirk its responsibilities. On May 7th 2015 we have a unique opportunity in Scotland to wipe out the blue, yellow and red Tories in one fell swoop. We can electorally punish those who lined up with the billionaires and millionaires to lie, deceive and bully our nation into submission. We are not too small, too poor or too scared to move forward into a new and better world and by uniting the pro-Scotland and anti-Establishment vote in May 2015 we can realise our dreams. Bring the family and enjoy another great day out while listening to the speakers from all political backgrounds and on the importance of using your vote wisely at the general election. There will also be many amazingly talented artists and musicians for you to enjoy on the day. In the words of Gerry Cinnamon's inspiring anthem of our movement, "Hope Over Fear, Carpe Diem". Let’s seize the day in 2015. NOTE: Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver will be one of the speakers :) FACEBOOK EVENT: https://www.facebook.com/events/401561463337441/

ALSO here for protesters live stream within the danger zone http://livestre.am/5dlJI Highly contentious issue with many locals against the blowing up of these 6 flats at once and want them brought down floor by floor. The flats could still contain asbestos; they are very close to residential areas including a nursery and there is worry about water and gas pipes being burst. See WikiPedia link for more info and criticism of previous Red Row flats that have been blown up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Road_Flats

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 Around 1:30 - 3:30pm BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice!

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice! Sunday, June 29 at 1:30pm - 3:30pm BBC Scotland Studios, Pacific Quay G51 1 Glasgow, United Kingdom This is a protest against bias from the self-proclaimed “impartial” BBC. Irish & Luxembourg EU ministers views misrepresented.
