Welcome to the Independence Live archive of livestreams. We are a collective of citizen livestreamers, mostly based in Scotland, founded with the objective of producing live video at events, which the mainstream media will not cover. We have livestreamed over 1500 events since November 2013 and all for FREE. This is an archive of live videos produced mainly on the livestream.com platform between 2013 and 2021. Our success and continued growth is down to the dedication of our volunteers and the support of our viewers. We continue to cover political, social and cultural events and news stories in Scotland and further afield.

Views expressed on our broadcasts do not necessarily reflect the views of the Independence Live collective nor should our coverage of any event, individual or organisation be taken as an endorsement.

Class and nation in contemporary Scotland: day 1 with keynote lecture from Richard Finlay on "Britishness in Scotland: Past, Present – and Future?"

Maureen McBride: Opening remarks and welcome. Bridget Fowler: Setting the Scene: the Continuing Relevance of Class. Richard Finlay: Britishness in Scotland: Past, Present – and Future? Chair: Neil Davidson The Independence Referendum campaign of 2014 and the British General Election of 2015 have transformed Scottish politics: the former giving rise to a social movement comparable to those of Spain and Greece, the latter consolidating the rise of the SNP signalling the collapse of the once-mighty Scottish Labour Party into electoral irrelevance. Yet the underlying sociological changes beneath these events have received relatively little attention. In particular, while fantastical claims about Scotland being dominated by increasingly affluent middle-class professionals have not survived the recession, nothing has replaced them, and discussions of the Yes vote and SNP's current hegemony simply assume that this is the result of a turn to 'nationalism' when in fact it reflects, at least in part, a search for a social democratic alternative to Labour. This conference seeks to address these issues of class structure and national identity, and related issues of racism, sectarianism and mass movements. Open to both academics and activists, we intend that our programme of lectures, panels and debates - all followed by open discussion - will contribute to deepening public understanding of the 'New Scotland'.

Edinburgh Coalition Against Poverty #AdvocacyIsNotACrime! ECAP are calling a solidarity demo for this Monday 14th at 9am at High Riggs Jobcentre

SOLIDARITY DEMO CALL FOR 9am MONDAY 14th SEPTEMBER AT HIGH RIGGS JOB CENTRE The entire ground floor of Edinburgh's High Riggs Jobcentre was closed down for almost three hours on 10th September as Jobcentre managers called in police and refused to permit a jobseeker to exercise his right to be accompanied to an appointment. Members of Edinburgh Coalition Against Poverty defied threats of arrest and stayed in the jobcentre to support the claimant and the ECAP advocate. Now ECAP are calling a solidarity demo for this Monday 14th at 9am at High Riggs Jobcentre, when the jobseeker, Adam, will attend his rearranged appointment, once more accompanied by an ECAP advocate. ECAP say: “We will not be intimidated by the DWP bullies, G4S security or the police. We will assert claimants’ right to be accompanied. The DWP themselves state: "Claimants accessing Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) benefits and services can have someone to accompany them to act on their behalf..”

Glasgow Sees Syria On Saturday we are going to stand in George Square, opposite the City Chambers. We are each going to bring a candle so we can light a light for the many who have died in their attempts at safety while our government has done very little.

If you would like to join us in peacefully telling our Politicians that the people of Glasgow will not abide the Home Office decision to help so few refugees I would love to see you there with a candle. Please share and invite people to this event. REGARDING THE NAME Semantics are important. We have seen how words can be used to influence people's feelings and actions towards a situation. Multi media is stuck in a refugee/migrant battle of semantics. Both of these words are being misunderstood. Both of these words are also a label, they remove the humanity from a person and make them a thing. If we could call the event Glasgow Sees Syria/Palestine/Libya/Afganistan/Somalia (how sad that the list goes on) we would. But ultimately we wanted to convey firstly that we see what is going on in the world and secondly that we don't see our fellow humans as refugees but as people who came from a place. At the moment there are an estimated 11 million displaced Syrians, 4 million of them have been displaced outside of their home country. This is an overwhelming number of people, this is a crisis that we can not ignore. The name is Glasgow Sees Syria but in doing so we see every person who has lost their home. We light a candle for all people in this situation and in doing so tell our Government WE SEE!

Dr Helga Rhein On Vitamin D

At The Yes Cafe Dr Helga Rhein, I work as a GP in Edinburgh. We know that a majority of people living in Scotland are Vitamin D deficient, I want to change this! Dr Helga Rhein, a GP in Edinburgh’s Sighthill area, has been single-handedly prescribing vitamin D for years since blood tests proved 70 per cent of her patients – some of Scotland’s poorest, sickest people – are severely deficient. Now she wants Scotland’s Chief Medical Officer to recommend that Scottish GPs in deprived areas prescribe year-round vitamin D supplementation immediately. She says: “A Food Standards Agency report published two years ago showed 47 per cent of people in deprived areas have levels of vitamin D in the blood that are well below adequacy. SACN’s report makes no north-south distinction and recommends the same dose for everyone whether they are a veiled woman in the north or a sun lover in south. A daily dose of 10 microgrammes for everyone in Britain is nonsense.”

Who owns Scotland's Land and how this matters in the 21st Century Andy Wightman is an expert on land ownership in Scotland and what he addresses in his books and articles is how power is exercised in Scotland through Land

Andy Wightman is an expert on land ownership in Scotland and what he addresses in his books and articles is how power is exercised in Scotland through Land; in our past and to this day and have attempts to redistribute this power more equitably made any difference? These are the questions that have beset Andy for the last 20 years: Who Owns Scotland? How did they get it? What happened to all the common land in Scotland? Has the Scottish Parliament made any difference? Can we get our common good land back? For all those with an interest in urban and rural land in Scotland and the current Land Reform Bill- Andy provides a fascinating and illuminating discussion on one of the most important and pressing political questions in Scotland - Who owns Scotlands Land and how this matters in the 21st Century

Hope Over Fear are organizing this 2015 event to coincide with the anniversary of the referendum and to make a clear statement that our journey to full Independence for our nation continues. Our First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon has stated clearly that it will be the people of Scotland who will determine if and when there is an #indyref2. Lets fill Freedom Square and the surrounding streets of Glasgow on September 19th to make our voices heard. 2018 is an ideal year for #indyref2 as it is clear in terms of elections north and south of the border. (2016 Scottish parliament, 2017 Scottish council, 2019 English council and 2020 General election.) Join us on the Square with the message, #Indyref2 2018.

HOPE OVER FEAR: SEIZE THE DAY RALLY George Square, Glasgow. Lots of great speakers including Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver plus great music...

The Hope Over Fear campaign will not shirk its responsibilities. On May 7th 2015 we have a unique opportunity in Scotland to wipe out the blue, yellow and red Tories in one fell swoop. We can electorally punish those who lined up with the billionaires and millionaires to lie, deceive and bully our nation into submission. We are not too small, too poor or too scared to move forward into a new and better world and by uniting the pro-Scotland and anti-Establishment vote in May 2015 we can realise our dreams. Bring the family and enjoy another great day out while listening to the speakers from all political backgrounds and on the importance of using your vote wisely at the general election. There will also be many amazingly talented artists and musicians for you to enjoy on the day. In the words of Gerry Cinnamon's inspiring anthem of our movement, "Hope Over Fear, Carpe Diem". Let’s seize the day in 2015. NOTE: Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver will be one of the speakers :) FACEBOOK EVENT: https://www.facebook.com/events/401561463337441/

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 Around 1:30 - 3:30pm BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice!

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice! Sunday, June 29 at 1:30pm - 3:30pm BBC Scotland Studios, Pacific Quay G51 1 Glasgow, United Kingdom This is a protest against bias from the self-proclaimed “impartial” BBC. The most important issue we need to highlight is the repeated omission of relevant facts, information & answers that has kept Scotland in the dark about the real independence debate. The BBC’s coverage is ruining the run up to the biggest decision in our history. People are suitably sickened by the BBC & other mainstream media and their one sided conveyor belt of scare stories portrayed against our economic prospects, EU membership and the currency of an independent Scotland. Sometimes the bias is not in what they do cover but what they don't cover in their news & current affairs programmes. Specific examples of bias that concerns us are as follows: Make up of Question Time panels. Irish & Luxembourg EU ministers views misrepresented. UKIP promotion during EU elections. University of the West of Scotland report on bias on evening news programmes (BBC & STV) University of the West of Scotland report on bias on Radio Scotland Good Morning Scotland show The BBC's membership of the CBI which opposes independence and even tried to become an official member of the no campaign until a U turn after a mass cancellation of membership by Scottish companies. Different styles of questioning for Yes/No including more frequent interruptions from interviewers. The list goes on… Let's keep up the pressure on the old BBC and arrange their next outing as a massive anti-bias operation! Bring your saltires, banners, balloons, friends, family and loud voices. Make it a day to remember! Everyone is welcome from both sides of the debate. Groups that wish to protest about other instances of BBC bias unrelated to the independence debate are also more than welcome to attend.
