Glasgow protest Free All Catalan Political Prisoners

Glasgow protest: Free All Catalan Political Prisoners Hosted by Catalan Defence Committee Scotland Supporters include Unison Scotland, Catalan National Assembly Scotland, All Under One Banner, Glasgow City Unison On 14 October nine prominent Catalan political figures were sentenced to almost 100 years in jail for organising a referendum on self determination on 1 October 2017. They are guilty of nothing more than organising a vote that was violently suppressed by the Spanish State. Self-determination is a fundamental civil and political right enshrined in various international law treaties to which Spain is a signatory. There has been a wave of non-violent civil disobedience in Catalonia that is part of a #TsunamiDemocratic against the actions of the Spanish State. This protest is to demand the release of ALL political prisoners and to defend democratic rights. Whether you are Yes, No, Leave or Remain, this protest is for anyone who supports the right to self determination, the right to vote free of violent repression, and who opposes the clampdown on dissent. In April 2018 the Scottish Trade Union Congress stood in solidarity with all Catalan political prisoners and called for their “immediate release and acquittal”. It also said that “threats to democracy in other European cities need to be resisted”, warning against repression becoming “normalised as a means of silencing dissent elsewhere”. Rightly, there has been cross party condemnation and criticism of the Spanish State. When he spoke out last year against the arrests Glasgow City Council deputy leader David McDonald said that “Glasgow isn't a city that stays silent”. He said, “We are proud to stand up for those who face oppression and speak out when others have their voices suppressed.” Join us to do exactly that on Saturday 26 October!!

Hope Over Fear are organizing this 2015 event to coincide with the anniversary of the referendum and to make a clear statement that our journey to full Independence for our nation continues. Our First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon has stated clearly that it will be the people of Scotland who will determine if and when there is an #indyref2. Lets fill Freedom Square and the surrounding streets of Glasgow on September 19th to make our voices heard. 2018 is an ideal year for #indyref2 as it is clear in terms of elections north and south of the border. (2016 Scottish parliament, 2017 Scottish council, 2019 English council and 2020 General election.) Join us on the Square with the message, #Indyref2 2018.

HOPE OVER FEAR: SEIZE THE DAY RALLY George Square, Glasgow. Lots of great speakers including Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver plus great music...

The Hope Over Fear campaign will not shirk its responsibilities. On May 7th 2015 we have a unique opportunity in Scotland to wipe out the blue, yellow and red Tories in one fell swoop. We can electorally punish those who lined up with the billionaires and millionaires to lie, deceive and bully our nation into submission. We are not too small, too poor or too scared to move forward into a new and better world and by uniting the pro-Scotland and anti-Establishment vote in May 2015 we can realise our dreams. Bring the family and enjoy another great day out while listening to the speakers from all political backgrounds and on the importance of using your vote wisely at the general election. There will also be many amazingly talented artists and musicians for you to enjoy on the day. In the words of Gerry Cinnamon's inspiring anthem of our movement, "Hope Over Fear, Carpe Diem". Let’s seize the day in 2015. NOTE: Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver will be one of the speakers :) FACEBOOK EVENT: https://www.facebook.com/events/401561463337441/

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 Around 1:30 - 3:30pm BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice!

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice! Sunday, June 29 at 1:30pm - 3:30pm BBC Scotland Studios, Pacific Quay G51 1 Glasgow, United Kingdom This is a protest against bias from the self-proclaimed “impartial” BBC. The most important issue we need to highlight is the repeated omission of relevant facts, information & answers that has kept Scotland in the dark about the real independence debate. The BBC’s coverage is ruining the run up to the biggest decision in our history. People are suitably sickened by the BBC & other mainstream media and their one sided conveyor belt of scare stories portrayed against our economic prospects, EU membership and the currency of an independent Scotland. Sometimes the bias is not in what they do cover but what they don't cover in their news & current affairs programmes. Specific examples of bias that concerns us are as follows: Make up of Question Time panels. Irish & Luxembourg EU ministers views misrepresented. UKIP promotion during EU elections. University of the West of Scotland report on bias on evening news programmes (BBC & STV) University of the West of Scotland report on bias on Radio Scotland Good Morning Scotland show The BBC's membership of the CBI which opposes independence and even tried to become an official member of the no campaign until a U turn after a mass cancellation of membership by Scottish companies. Different styles of questioning for Yes/No including more frequent interruptions from interviewers. The list goes on… Let's keep up the pressure on the old BBC and arrange their next outing as a massive anti-bias operation! Bring your saltires, banners, balloons, friends, family and loud voices. Make it a day to remember! Everyone is welcome from both sides of the debate. Groups that wish to protest about other instances of BBC bias unrelated to the independence debate are also more than welcome to attend.
