MURRAY ARMSTRONG at Word Power Books Thomas Muir's trajectory as radical, agitator and democratic hero....

Facebook Button Directs through To http://www.word-power.co.uk/ Admission free. Donations Welcome! "[It] draws on Muir scholarship and imagination to tell the compelling story of Muir's trajectory as radical, agitator and democratic hero.... It has been deeply researched and considered, and the author pays the reader the compliment of detailed and thoughtful footnotes and a helpful bibliography... " David Stenhouse, Scotland on Sunday 'The Liberty Tree' is a historical novel about the life and struggles of the Scottish Radical Thomas Muir (1765 – 1799). At the same time the author recreates events using the actual recorded words of the participants (eg. the famous exchanges between Braxfield and Gerrald during the latter's trial) and as such 'The Liberty Tree' also stands as a vivid, well-researched historical account of the life of Thomas Muir. MURRAY ARMSTRONG was born in Airdrie, Lanarkshire. He was a journalist who spent the final twenty-one years of his career at the Guardian which he joined in 1987 as a features sub-editor. He was Associate Editor at the time of his early retirement in 2008 which he took with the express intention of writing about Thomas Muir having nurtured an interest in the man and his times for many years.

Butterfly Rammy: COORIE (a KILTR takeover) Is political community and shared feelings good for change or does it leave us in a bubble talking among ourselves?

Butterfly Rammy is a series of events held by Common Weal for this year's Edinburgh Fringe, looking at the political and cultural legacy of last year's Referendum debate, and how we can move forward. In the spirit of the theme of Coorie, this show is a special takeover. The cultural platform Kiltr will be curating all the guests and performers as well as addressing the issue of whether our new political communities can effect change. Many different artists, musicians, activists and organisations have been invited to take part, including KILTR. Our KILTR takeover will be on Friday 21st August at 12.20, and we'll be live-streaming our panel from here so you can enjoy the proceedings from wherever you might happen to be. We'll be discussing issues around the Referendum and how New Media in Scotland came to the fore in what was a political awakening for all in Scotland and joining us will be KILTR CEO Brian Hughes, political performance artist Chunky Mark the Artist Taxi Driver, Scottish rapper and blogger Darren McGarvey (aka Loki), and Victoria Heaney from the Radical Independence Campaign. There will also be a surprise musical guest.

Pro-independence PASSBY, Dunfermline, Forward As One A third camera to capture the parade passing down the High Street

PASSBY camera --- Please Like & share! Independence Live, Livestream --- Second Annual Yes event in Dunfermline. This time we're doing it slightly differently. We want it to be a celebration of life, liberty and the hope for a better future. Rather than marching, we want it to be a mardi-gras style parade of dancing and singing, filling the ancient streets of Dunfermline with the sound of celebration. To be swiftly followed by a celebration in Pittencrief Park. So get dressed up, pull out the costumes and the face paint, make floats and prepare to sing your hearts out. Scotland's coming home to the last capital of Scotland where sovereignty lay with the people of Scotland. Parade to assemble next to near Dunfermline Train Station. Convoys and other ancillary events to be announced shortly. Unworking the Institution: Gender, Technology, Power how gender, care and safety is embodied in software based systems

The contemporary institution is increasingly policed and maintained by technical methods and systems, such as management databases, immigration controls, and electronic barriers/access points. This practical workshop will explore how gender, care and safety is embodied in software based systems by tracing connections between personal and institutional practices of safety and care. It will use embodied mapping practices to bring out collective experiences, and group experiments/interventions to create potential responses to them This workshop is a parallel session of the conference "Institutions, Politics, Performance" that is taking place from 24 to 28 September 2015 in Athens. The talks will be in English. Everyone is welcome.

Hope Over Fear are organizing this 2015 event to coincide with the anniversary of the referendum and to make a clear statement that our journey to full Independence for our nation continues. Our First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon has stated clearly that it will be the people of Scotland who will determine if and when there is an #indyref2. Lets fill Freedom Square and the surrounding streets of Glasgow on September 19th to make our voices heard. 2018 is an ideal year for #indyref2 as it is clear in terms of elections north and south of the border. (2016 Scottish parliament, 2017 Scottish council, 2019 English council and 2020 General election.) Join us on the Square with the message, #Indyref2 2018.

HOPE OVER FEAR: SEIZE THE DAY RALLY George Square, Glasgow. Lots of great speakers including Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver plus great music...

The Hope Over Fear campaign will not shirk its responsibilities. On May 7th 2015 we have a unique opportunity in Scotland to wipe out the blue, yellow and red Tories in one fell swoop. We can electorally punish those who lined up with the billionaires and millionaires to lie, deceive and bully our nation into submission. We are not too small, too poor or too scared to move forward into a new and better world and by uniting the pro-Scotland and anti-Establishment vote in May 2015 we can realise our dreams. Bring the family and enjoy another great day out while listening to the speakers from all political backgrounds and on the importance of using your vote wisely at the general election. There will also be many amazingly talented artists and musicians for you to enjoy on the day. In the words of Gerry Cinnamon's inspiring anthem of our movement, "Hope Over Fear, Carpe Diem". Let’s seize the day in 2015. NOTE: Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver will be one of the speakers :) FACEBOOK EVENT: https://www.facebook.com/events/401561463337441/

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 Around 1:30 - 3:30pm BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice!

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice! Sunday, June 29 at 1:30pm - 3:30pm BBC Scotland Studios, Pacific Quay G51 1 Glasgow, United Kingdom This is a protest against bias from the self-proclaimed “impartial” BBC. The most important issue we need to highlight is the repeated omission of relevant facts, information & answers that has kept Scotland in the dark about the real independence debate. The BBC’s coverage is ruining the run up to the biggest decision in our history. People are suitably sickened by the BBC & other mainstream media and their one sided conveyor belt of scare stories portrayed against our economic prospects, EU membership and the currency of an independent Scotland. Sometimes the bias is not in what they do cover but what they don't cover in their news & current affairs programmes. Specific examples of bias that concerns us are as follows: Make up of Question Time panels. Irish & Luxembourg EU ministers views misrepresented. UKIP promotion during EU elections. University of the West of Scotland report on bias on evening news programmes (BBC & STV) University of the West of Scotland report on bias on Radio Scotland Good Morning Scotland show The BBC's membership of the CBI which opposes independence and even tried to become an official member of the no campaign until a U turn after a mass cancellation of membership by Scottish companies. Different styles of questioning for Yes/No including more frequent interruptions from interviewers. The list goes on… Let's keep up the pressure on the old BBC and arrange their next outing as a massive anti-bias operation! Bring your saltires, banners, balloons, friends, family and loud voices. Make it a day to remember! Everyone is welcome from both sides of the debate. Groups that wish to protest about other instances of BBC bias unrelated to the independence debate are also more than welcome to attend.
