Interview with one of the Orkney petitioners Tim Morrison speaks at length about the Carmichael case

We speak with Tim Morrison, one of the four constituents of Alistair Carmichael, who brought the petition against him under section 106 of the Representation of the People Act. On Wednesday 9 December 2015 the Election Court judges ruled that there was reasonable doubt that the false statement made by Mr Carmichael concerned his personal reputation, one of the three issues that had to be proven. The other two, that self-talking was relevant to this section of the Act and the purpose of Carmichael's false statement was to improve his chances of re-election were judged in favour of the petitioners.

Sheku Bayoh - Celebrating His Life, Kirkcaldy On Sunday 7th June the funeral of Sheku Bayoh will take place in Kirkcaldy five weeks after his death in police custody. Sheku’s family have invited his friends, community and supporters of the Justice Campaign to join them in celebrating his life.

SUNDAY 7TH JUNE Statement by Aamer Anwar- solicitor for the Bayoh family. On Sunday 7th June the funeral of Sheku Bayoh will take place in Kirkcaldy five weeks after his death in police custody. Sheku’s family have invited his friends, community and supporters of the Justice Campaign to join them in celebrating his life. There will be a funeral procession starting at 12:00 noon from Hayfield Road Kirkcaldy at the spot where he was restrained and lost consciousness. The funeral cortege will leave Hayfield Road at 12.20pm and then will stop at Kirkcaldy Police Station, St. Brycedale Avenue, for a two minute silence and then work its way to Kirkcaldy Islamic Centre Mosque, 1 St Mary’s Road, KY1 2RQ for prayers at 1.45pm Following which he will be laid to rest at the Dysart Muslim Cemetery at 2.50pm. “The Bayoh family will stand in silence at Kirkcaldy Police Station in protest over the 9 officers who have failed to speak to the independent investigators of PIRC for well over a month. The family are tired of having to fight for answers and deserve the truth. There are those who claim that this funeral cortege is inflammatory, it is nothing of the sort and should any police officer or member of the public wish to cause trouble then they should stay away. The Bayoh family want Sunday to be a peaceful and dignified farewell to their beloved Sheku.” A press conference will take place straight after the funeral at Temple Hall Community Centre, Beauly Place, Kirkcaldy, KY2 6EX at approximately 3.30pm. The Bayoh family, solicitor Aamer Anwar, Sierra Leone High Commissioner, Local politicians and Trade Unionists will speak. At 4.30pm onwards will be a celebration of Sheku Bayoh’s life until 8.30pm Food will be available.

Belfast Rally for Remain #Rally4Remain We are live in Belfast for a pro-EU rally which is demanding that Northern Ireland remains in the EU

We are live in Belfast for a pro-EU rally which is demanding that Northern Ireland remains in the EU. This rally appears to be promoted mostly by the Alliance Party and the SDLP, but speakers may be drawn from a wider political spectrum and civil society in the north of Ireland. From a Scottish point of view it is interesting that they're not pushing a #PeoplesVote prominently unlike the coinciding march in London. It is hard to be enthusiastic about another vote when the previous vote in this part of the UK was already strongly in favour of Remain. Here is what the organisers say: "Defending our position in Europe is our biggest fight." "We voted to remain in 2016. We voted against a hard Brexit. It is time that politicians of all shades respected that vote and did all they can to protect our interests." "Join us as we take to the streets of Belfast to protest against attempts to force us into a hard Brexit, or worse, a no-deal scenario. Make your voice heard once more! Speakers to be announced."

Scotland's Future History with Stuart McHardy A Scotland-centric history of Scotland?

Stuart McHardy, historian and folklorist, and author of Scotland's Future History poses questions about how we want to present Scotland's history. A chance, guided by Stuart, to look at history with a different perspective, and with questions of power and interest at the fore. In whose interest is it that we accept the the classical/Christian view of our history? "What if prehistoric Scotland was not some dark, remote land populated by barbarians, but was actually home to a highly sophisticated civilisation? What if the Scots never came from Ireland? What if Scotland never fought any ‘Wars of Independence’? What if Culloden wasn’t the end of the Jacobites?" http://www.luath.co.uk/scotland-future-history.html In Scotland’s Future History, and tonight for Common Weal Edinburgh North & Leith, Stuart shows us a new approach to history. You're challenged to have your perception of Scotland’s history changed!

Hope Over Fear are organizing this 2015 event to coincide with the anniversary of the referendum and to make a clear statement that our journey to full Independence for our nation continues. Our First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon has stated clearly that it will be the people of Scotland who will determine if and when there is an #indyref2. Lets fill Freedom Square and the surrounding streets of Glasgow on September 19th to make our voices heard. 2018 is an ideal year for #indyref2 as it is clear in terms of elections north and south of the border. (2016 Scottish parliament, 2017 Scottish council, 2019 English council and 2020 General election.) Join us on the Square with the message, #Indyref2 2018.

HOPE OVER FEAR: SEIZE THE DAY RALLY George Square, Glasgow. Lots of great speakers including Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver plus great music...

The Hope Over Fear campaign will not shirk its responsibilities. On May 7th 2015 we have a unique opportunity in Scotland to wipe out the blue, yellow and red Tories in one fell swoop. We can electorally punish those who lined up with the billionaires and millionaires to lie, deceive and bully our nation into submission. We are not too small, too poor or too scared to move forward into a new and better world and by uniting the pro-Scotland and anti-Establishment vote in May 2015 we can realise our dreams. Bring the family and enjoy another great day out while listening to the speakers from all political backgrounds and on the importance of using your vote wisely at the general election. There will also be many amazingly talented artists and musicians for you to enjoy on the day. In the words of Gerry Cinnamon's inspiring anthem of our movement, "Hope Over Fear, Carpe Diem". Let’s seize the day in 2015. NOTE: Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver will be one of the speakers :) FACEBOOK EVENT: https://www.facebook.com/events/401561463337441/

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 Around 1:30 - 3:30pm BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice!

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice! Sunday, June 29 at 1:30pm - 3:30pm BBC Scotland Studios, Pacific Quay G51 1 Glasgow, United Kingdom This is a protest against bias from the self-proclaimed “impartial” BBC. The most important issue we need to highlight is the repeated omission of relevant facts, information & answers that has kept Scotland in the dark about the real independence debate. The BBC’s coverage is ruining the run up to the biggest decision in our history. People are suitably sickened by the BBC & other mainstream media and their one sided conveyor belt of scare stories portrayed against our economic prospects, EU membership and the currency of an independent Scotland. Sometimes the bias is not in what they do cover but what they don't cover in their news & current affairs programmes. Specific examples of bias that concerns us are as follows: Make up of Question Time panels. Irish & Luxembourg EU ministers views misrepresented. UKIP promotion during EU elections. University of the West of Scotland report on bias on evening news programmes (BBC & STV) University of the West of Scotland report on bias on Radio Scotland Good Morning Scotland show The BBC's membership of the CBI which opposes independence and even tried to become an official member of the no campaign until a U turn after a mass cancellation of membership by Scottish companies. Different styles of questioning for Yes/No including more frequent interruptions from interviewers. The list goes on… Let's keep up the pressure on the old BBC and arrange their next outing as a massive anti-bias operation! Bring your saltires, banners, balloons, friends, family and loud voices. Make it a day to remember! Everyone is welcome from both sides of the debate. Groups that wish to protest about other instances of BBC bias unrelated to the independence debate are also more than welcome to attend.
